After reading Patrick Gale's Notes From An Exhibition I wanted to read more of his work.
I picked up "Rough Music" a book which is loosely based on event sin his own life.
Just like Notes From An Exhibition the book delights the reader with a cast of captivating characters. The story flits between the 1960s when Julian, the book's main character was a boy and the modern day. A holiday home in Cornwall weaves the threads of the narrative together which come crashing into the modern day like a wave from the nearby beach.
I have just started Daphne by Justine Picardie, another book which alternates between the past and present day. I am sensing that it will be a bit like AS Byatt's Possession in which a researcher gets drawn into the life of the person they are studying.
I am also reading The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks and a memoir by Dang Thuy Tram, a young doctor caring for soldiers during the Vietnam War.She was shot dead by an American patrol in 1970 but her daily entries of courage under fire are very humbling.
