I've taken advantage of the car being repaired to get stuck in to this anthology on the long(ish) train journey from Liverpool to Southport.
Brilliant, classy storytelling - but perhaps not as twist-filled as I was anticipating. You do get the impression old Roald thought his fellow human beings were a thoroughly unpleasant lot.
My particular favourite of the 16 included here was Parson's Pleasure, although William and Mary was one of the first Dahl tales I've read which verged on sci-fi, while Lamb to the Slaughter and The Landlady are fanatastic examples of brevity being the author's ally.
Well worth picking up if you're facing a long journey and need something to make the time fly. It worked for me.
